A Beautiful Day!

It was such a nice day today! I was just thinking about how God created all the earth and how amazing it really is. My mom and brother took me out for dinner tonight and then we went for a walk at the Air Park. While I was sitting at the lookout I thought about how great God must really be to have created such a beautiful land. There were the Canadian geese in the water, the little bushes with their leaves changing color, the waves crashing against the beach, the gorgeous sun set, and so much more that was displaying His splendor.

The other night Josh took this picture of the sun setting.

It is such a beautiful display of the majesty of God. The colors that the camera captured hardly do justice to what we saw. It was like it was yelling out to us how great God is and worthy of all our praises. Sometimes I wonder how we could ever praise God enough, but just gazing at this colorful display I think is an act of worship too!

Logbook-2

What an amazing week. It has been extremely busy, but so much fun too!
I had classes, had great discussions, played an amazing game of Backwards California Kick Ball, made cookies, leaned about God's grace, had a ton of fun and learnt some new things at Focus, enjoyed hanging out with friends, went on a super fun date (see date #2 posted below), and relaxed with God.
D-team and Underground went really well this week. Jade and Jeff talked about God as our Father and mixed things up a little bit by having small groups before hand and then talking after. In the lesson they used the verse, Matthew 7:11 "If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" This was a wonderful reminder to me of how much my parents have been a blessing to me, and how much more God has blessed me with good gifts.
Focus (used to be Teen Training) was excellent! Cory Weir (sorry, I'm not quite sure how to spell his name) spoke to us about bringing glory to God. I realized how often I fail to bring God glory in the things that I do. As Cory said, "We need to be a people of faith consumed with God's glory."
I have come to realize that God's glory should be my number one concern in whatever I say or do and in how I am living my life.
God has also been teaching me about myself and how I lack the ability to express myself. I am an 'inside' person. Not in a way that I want to be inside the house all the time, but I keep thing-worries, love, words I should have said, hope of God, my thoughts-all within myself. It isn't very often that I let people know what is going on inside, even though I know how much better I feel when I do. Through some of the homework we did this week, God showed me this problem and I have come to realize its importance.
As for crazy, wild things that I participated in this week, they are numerous. Karen, Linds and I had our second date, which consisted of us staying home, dressing up, doing Karen's hair with a monstrous amount of gel, and taking random pictures (check them out below). I also played some pretty interesting games of pool and other random, crazy stuff.
One last thing before I head. James took us TREAD students down to the river on Thursday and we each wrote down the garbage in our life that we want to get rid of on rocks and then tossed the rocks into the river. It was a great way to physically release some of the things that have been bothering me over the last little while and I am so glad that James brought us over there to do it.

Linds Logbook

Wooden floor, country music, and blankets. This week was our second "in the swing of things". Monday I began my tap dance classes, and enjoyed the sound of the taps on the wooden floor, a sound I never get when I practice at home. Tuesday TREAD class was an intense discussion about Genesis 1, and Wednesday as discussion on motivation/necessity of youth ministry, heaven and hell, “the call” or God on our lives. The way I imagined TREAD to be, with us processing and debating stuff together, was fulfilled this week. Tuesday D-team went well. It was neat to get feed back that the kids liked the small group time we've prioritized this year. I enjoyed homemade pizza at my mom's house on Tuesday, and hang out time with a fun crew. The country music part of the week was the Wednesday night skit (signing to “Mr. Mom”), and fun time as Treadettes on Thursday evening.
I was disappointed that there weren't too many girls here for Wed. drop in. There are no younger girls coming out yet that I connect naturally, so it's a challenge. The weekend has been busy, with a "Focus" (teen training) weekend. We changed things up and had designated "rowdy" spot across the road for us girls who wanted to stay up late and "party". It was a definite success.
This week I often didn't feel like 'doing ministry', but rather curling up in a blanket. God's been teaching me, though, that this is not about me. (I need to keep on being reminded of this.) My purpose in ministry is not to make me happy, or even for me to be having fun (though there have been fun times this week), but to love God and people. May I enjoy the times my feelings support my glorifying God, and not listen to them when they don't.
God answered my prayers for encouragement this week. Rich encouraged me, that I was appreciated and valued. Jade understood me when it seems like others didn’t, and James asked me how I was doing. God provides.

Logbook-1

I have now completed my fist week of college and work, and I must say that it was great. Although I didn't get into some of it as much as I know I could have, I did learn and try new things.
We are currently taking four different classes. Monday is Spiritual Formation, Tuesday Old Testament, Wednesday Intercultural Studies (my favorite so far), and Thursdays are English. I learnt a lot this week, although I don't think that I could repeat it all back to you. One of the most exciting things I discovered is that each of us are 'called' to be part of the Great Commission, but each of us have our own individual 'call.' I guess I always knew that, but to see it written out and explained in someone else's words was so helpful. I have a better understanding, from reading others examples, of what individuals callings can be like.
As for the ministry part of the week, things went really well. Underground, D-team, Staff Meetings, everything was awesome. God has really blessed me with being part of such a great group of people who's mission and desire is to serve God and teach the teens of the Valley about Him.
I was excited to see everyone again at D-team and Underground and reconnect with some of the kids that I hadn't seen in a while. For the D-team/Underground small group that I get to be part of this year, Marry Kutyne and Grace Howard are part of it. They're two really great girls and I look forward to getting to know them throughout this next year.
Although this week was filled with a blur of activity, I must admit that I was feeling a little spiritually dry. I know that it was my own fault; one for not doing my devotions as diligently as I should be, and two for not calling out to God with my stuff. I know that He and only He can help me in my 'dry' spells, yet it never seems to be Him that I call out to. I want this to be different this next week however and seek to make God number one in everything I say and do.

The Completely Random, Brain Fart Post

Okay, so I've been wanting to post something for the past few days, but haven't come up with anything too exciting to say; hence there have been no posts. I have now decided however to put up a post, but I still don't know what to say; hence the brain fart.
So, since this is completely random I thought I would fill you in on some completely random facts.

- An ostridge's eye is bigger then its brain.

- Cows make beef (just in case you didn't know)
- The longest one-syllable word in the English language is "screeched."
- No word in the English language rhymes with Orange
- The symbol on the "pound" key (#) is called an octothorpe
- If you have three quarters, four dimes, and four pennies, you have $1.19. You also have the largest amount of money in coins without being able to make change for a dollar.
- "Underground" is the only word in the English language that begins and ends with the letters "und."
- The longest place-name still in use is Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahor
onukupokaiwhenuakita natahu, a New Zealand hill.
- Grapes explode when you put them in the microwave.
-111,111,111 x 111,111,111 = 12,345,678,987,654,321
- Woodpecker scalps, porpoise teeth and giraffe tails have all been used as money.

I'm sure that there are many more, really this is only just a few, but I hope you enjoyed becoming informed about random facts.

Linds-"the call"

So today in class westarted reading Thomas Hale's book "On Being a Missionary" and wrote and assignment on what we understand of the "call of God" in our lives. If your interested, here are my thoughts:
I agree with Hale, that there is a specific and general call. We are all called to obey God, following His commandments which are summned up in loving Him and loving others. This “general call” is given to all Christian, and is to be lived out wherever we are.
I understand that God is much less concerned with where we are, than with who we are, and how we obey him. We would do best to fret less on where God is leading us and act on His commandments where we are. Often I believe there is sometimes no wrong or right place to be. We should be seeking God’s best, and it could be that He leaves it up to us to choose, only calling us to obey Him where we are.
I also understand, however, that God does sometimes choose to give us a very specific call. I understand the “specific call” to mean God directing people to a certain place, or area of ministry. Many missionaries can testify as to how God called them to a specific country, language, position or people.
This call is sometimes abrupt and distinct, like Paul’s encounter with the Light on the road to Damascus. Often, though, it is a developing call. God places a “burden” on a person’s heart to go to a certain people, or help with a specific need. Without a specific moment of epiphany, God guides a person with an increasing sense of calling, and grants enough faith to take the next step.
Personally, I understand that I am called to love God and love others, part of which is fulfilling the great commission to “go”. May I never loose this understanding of the very fundamentals. My “specific call” has gradually developed. Reading missionary biographies, praying, and most potently, going to Peru, have been used by God to direct me return to Peru. It’s hard to explain “the call” on my life. I could say I “feel” called, but that sounds mushy, I could say I “sense God calling me”, but that sounds like just a whim. I could say God has “given me a desire to go”, or that He is “opening doors”, (which are both true) but it’s more like a little kid.
I’m walking down the sidewalk holding my Abba’s (Father's) hand, like a kindergarten child walking home from school. What’s most important is that I keep holding His hand. Sometime He doesn’t care where we walk, just as long as I’m holding His hand. Sometimes He leads the way. Though sometimes in our conversation He tells me where we’re going, often I just know, from other things He says, or other people, and the scenery we pass, where we’re headed. I keep asking, am I going the right way? But the question is almost redundant as long as I keep holding His hand.

Karissa-First day

WOW, my first day of college. Can you believe it? Who ever though that I would get this far? What no one is raising their hand? Well I'm glad to see that you all have confidence in my abilities. Ha, I sure showed you eh?
Anywho, Lindsay suggested today that us TREAD girls start a blog together, and I said, "what a ducky idea! I have been wanting to start one of my own, but didn't want to commit to doing it all by myself." (Actually I didn't say it in those exact words, but you get the genneral idea.) Thus we now have a blog spot; isn't that great?! I'm very excited about it anyway, because now I don't have to e-mail anyone. Just kidding! I still plan on e-mailing, but this is pretty exciting too. And if anyone is at all like me (which is somewhat hopeful, yet not so much either) they get all extatic when someone puts something up on their blog.
As for life in genneral, things are going good. Although I'm having to endure Lindsay and Karen in MY room. Just joking! We all get along very well and I have no problem sharing MY space with them. The room keeps getting more exciting as we each add things to it. Because we each have our own bulletin board, pictures are everywhere. I love it!
So I hope that you all enjoyed this little blurp about me and my craziness that doesn't make sense at all. Have a great rest of the day!

Our First Date

So us girls headed on a date last week, to the ever-elegant Tim Hortons

And what's a date without a kiss?

And then to top it off, we jumped on the tramp, and went for a swim.
So that should answer your question as to what 3 girls do for fun.

Linds- First Day

Hey friends
so this is me trying a blog site!!!Today was our first day of classes! Didn't seem to big of a milestone though, since the bunch of us have been living/studying with each other for a while now.
Summit course at Prairie was a good time to "bond" as a group. That's a way of saying that the time together as a crew was good, and the classes short of amazing. So today wasn't really our first day of classes together....but still exciting. It's so neat to be studying as a small group. You know school is good when you can sit outside, in the sun reading aloud and eating a peanut buter cookie.
D-team (discipleship) team for YU starts up tomorow. There are some new kids comming on, which is neat. Not mentioning any name, but some of my "favorites" are staying on, or joinings:)

The last week has been rather rocky personally, but it's been neat to see God's faithfulness through it. I'm amazed that He loves me, and that I've got friends who put up with me.Thats all for now.
